Northwest Allen County Schools is a participating member in a Smith-Green West Allen Education Cooperative, which also includes Southwest Allen County Schools and Smith-Green Community Schools. The cooperative provides special education programs for students three through twenty-two years of age. The programs within NACS include preschool for three to five year olds, and K-12 programs for students who are emotionally handicapped, learning disabled, speech and language services, mentally handicapped, or physically handicapped. Transportation is provided for students in special education, whether attending their home school or being transported to a school within the Cooperative in which a specific program is housed. The Smith Green West-Allen Special Education Cooperative emphasizes the philosophy that each student will be assisted to develop personal knowledge, with a strong emphasis on the development of academic and vocational skills and competencies which maximize individual potential.
