The Allen County Youth Services Center is licensed by the state as an emergency shelter care facility. It serves youth ages 6-18 from Fort Wayne and some of the surrounding counties. It is governed by the Allen County Board of Commissions. YSC provides a group living experience with caring adults. Each resident is encouraged to gain self-respect and respect for others and grow through cooperation in sharing activities and responsibilities.
Residents are required to attend school while living at YSC. The school is staffed by 2 licensed teachers and 1 instructional assistant who are employed by Northwest Allen County Schools. The average number of students ranges between 15 and 25. Based on the ages and grades of the students, one class is usually teaching middle school curriculum while the other class focuses primarily on high school.
Youth Services Center provides area youth with a safe, controlled, and caring environment in which they can develop valuable life skills for the future.
