Restart/Shut Down the Laptop

Shutdown Video Demonstration (34 seconds)

The laptop must be restarted regularly to keep it in top working condition. When using it at school and at home, always restart when arriving at the new location so the wireless network connections can be made properly. If you shut down when you leave then turn it on when you arrive, that will work the same as restarting. If you simply close the lid when moving from one place to another, that is NOT the same as shutting down or restarting. Even though you are prompted to login again, the laptop was only asleep and your connections are not going to be right until you do one of the following.

To Shutdown your Computer:

  1. Click the Startup icon in the lower left of your screen (blue circle with Windows logo)
  2. Select Shut down (to the right)
  3. The computer will close all programs and shut itself down. *Make sure that it is completely off before closing the screen. Shutting the lid too quickly will put it to sleep before it has truly shut down.

To Restart your Computer:

  1. Click the Startup icon in the lower left of your screen (blue circle with Windows logo)
  2. Click the arrow to the right of the Shut down button to get the options. Choose Restart.
  3. The computer will close all programs, shut itself down, then start back up again.
