Install New Software

Installing Software Video Demonstration (1:10 minutes)
Installing Chrome Video Demonstration (59 seconds)

If you would like to install software on your laptop, you will need to do so through Software Center. Software Center will only function when you are connected to the NACS network while you are at school. It will not work when you are on your home's WiFi network or another non-NACS network. Do not install Chrome or other programs on your laptop by direct download from Google, as this would be a violation of the NACS Responsible Use Policy. Only approved programs will be available to you for installation. If you need a program not listed, contact the Help Desk.

For illustrated directions on how to use Software Center to install Chrome, click here. (Use the same steps if you are installing a different program.)

For just the steps, do this:

  1. Double-click the Software Center icon on your desktop or in the Start menu.
  2. From the upper right corner, click the blue link for Find Additional Applications from the Application Catalog.
    • Internet Explorer will display the options right away. If you have set Firefox as your default browser, you will be asked to activate Silverlight first.
  3. Click on the program name from the list of available programs (such as Chrome) and then click the blue Install button in the bottom right corner.
  4. Click Yes when prompted to confirm the installation.
  5. Close the Software Center when it is done. The new icon will be on your desktop.
