To scan a diskette, CD, or USB drive:
1. Go to Start, All Programs, System Center Endpoint Protection.
2. On the home tab select the Custom scan option and then the Scan now button.
3. Place a check in front of the drive(s) you want to scan. Diskettes will be drive A:, CDs are generally D: or E:, USB drives are generally E:, F:, or G:.
4. Click OK to begin scanning. This will start scanning certain areas of your C: drive and then it will scan the drive you selected.
5. If a virus is detected, follow the prompts to remove it. Then repeat these steps to scan again. If it doesn't scan as clean this time, do not use the disk/CD/drive until a tech can take a look. Otherwise, close the program when it finishes.
Endpoint Protection is set to automatically update and to scan your computer for viruses regularly. The icon found in the taskbar will change colors to indicate your computers protection status.

- Green indicates that your computer's status is "protected."
- Yellow indicates that your computer's status is "potentially unprotected."
- Red indicates that your computer's status is "at risk."
To manually update Endpoint Protection:
1. Go to Start, All Programs, System Center Endpoint Protection.
(or double-click the icon in the bottom right of your screen)
2. Click the Update tab near the top.
3. Click on Update. This will download the newest virus definitions.
4. When it finishes, click the X to close the window.
5. If you are prompted to restart, do so.
6. If you are prompted that you have a virus or receive any other errors, please drop a message to the Help Desk.
To manually run an Endpoint Protection scan on your hard drive:
1. Go to Start, All Programs, System Center Endpoint Protection.
2. On the home tab select the Full or Quick scan option and then the Scan now button. This will start scanning your hard drive. You may continue working while the scan runs. The quick scan checks parts of your computer that are most likely to be attacked by malware and the full scan checks every file.
3. If a virus is detected, follow the prompts to remove it. Also drop a message to the so a tech can do a follow-up check. Otherwise, close the program when it finishes.
4. If you ever have outbreaks on more than one computer, CALL x1800 immediately. Unplug all power cords to the affected machines and leave them off until a tech arrives.

There are several free versions of anti-virus products available that can provide basic protection for your home device. If you choose to use a free product you should be cautious and only download from well-known vendor's websites. No anti-malware product is 100% effective and we do not warranty or support home computers but here are some that we have used:
