REGULAR MEETING

The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in regular session on Monday,April 28, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: MaryWysong, John Hilger, Paul Sloffer, Ron Felger and Kent Somers. Also present: Chris Himsel, Bill Mallers, Lisa Harris, staff, students, patrons and reporters.

Motions herewith mentioned are unanimousunless otherwise stated.

PresidentMary Wysong called the meeting to order. Motion to approve the minutes of the April14, 2014 regular meeting and the April 24 work sessions and executive sessions as presented by Paul Sloffer; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried.

PERSONNEL/COMMUNICATIONS

  1. RESIGNATIONSuzanne Hausfeld, Maple Creek Teacher, resigned as of the end of the 2013-14 school year.

  1. FACILITY USEREQUESTSArcolaVolunteer Fire Department requested permission to use the Arcola School parking lot and grounds for the annual Tractor Pull 6/26-28/14 and that the fee be waived. Pam Kaylor, Oak View Principal, requested permission to use Oak View Elementary facilities for Camp Invention June 23-27, 2014 and that the building fees be waived with a flat rate of $100.00 be paid by the camp for custodial fees. Motion to approve by Ron Felger; seconded by Paul Sloffer. Motion carried.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

  1. 2014-15 STUDENT HANDBOOKSRecommended the enclosed Student Handbooks for the 2014-15 school year with the exception of the attendance portion. Motion to approve with the exception by Ron Felger; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried.
  2. TEXTBOOK ADOPTIONRequested permission to adopt the Textbooks as enclosed beginning with the 2014-15 school year. Motion to approve by Ron Felger; seconded by Paul Sloffer. Vote was four in favor (Wysong; Hilger; Sloffer, Felger) and one against (Somers). Motion carried.
  3. PARKVIEW HEALTHCARE PERSONNEL AGREEMENTRecommended approval of the enclosed Parkview Health Care Personnel Agreement. This is a renewal of a previous agreement. Motion to approve by Paul Sloffer; seconded by Kent Somers. Motion carried.

Mr.Himsel, on behalf of NACS, extended sympathy to the family of Sandy Kelty at the loss of their son and asked to keep them in thoughts and prayers.

BUSINESS REPORT

  1. VEHICLE PURCHASERecommended the purchase of a 2015 diesel Ford F250 for $40,028.00 and a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox for $22,638.69 from the general fund, which includes trading in the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban and 1997 Ford Van. Motion to approve by John Hilger; seconded by Kent Somers. Motion carried.
  2. CIRCUIT BREAKER WAIVERRecommended approval of the enclosedWritten Request for Waiver from Implementation of Protected Taxes Under IC6-1.1-20.6-9.9 submitted to the Department of Local Government Finance. Motion to approve by Kent Somers; seconded by Paul Sloffer. Motion carried.
  3. CORPORATION PURCHASESRecommended purchases as follows: Building Corporation Purchases - Series 2013 Bond Issue - $7,850.00. Capital Projects Fund - $179,105.16. Motion to approve by Paul Sloffer; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried.
  4. CORPORATION PAYMENTSRecommended payments as follows: Building Corporation Payments - Series 2013 Bond Issue -$51,136.00. Motion to approve by Kent Somers; seconded by Paul Sloffer. Motion carried.

Motion to approve claims and payroll, subject to audit, by Ron Felger; seconded by Paul Sloffer. Motion carried.

Board Comments: None

Audience Comments: John Miller, Carroll Middle Principal, expressed his gratefulness to Rick Vorick, retiring Hickory Center Principal, for his many years of leadership and professionalism with NACS. Angela Hess, Hickory Center PTO President, welcomed Kate Johanningsmeier as the new Principal at Hickory Center and stated that Mr. Vorick will be missed.
