REGULAR MEETING

The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in regular session on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Mary Wysong, John Hilger, Paul Sloffer, Ron Felger and Kent Somers. Also present: Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, Bill Mallers, Lisa Harris, staff, students, patrons and reporters.

Motions herewith mentioned are unanimous unless otherwise stated.

President Mary Wysong called the meeting to order. Motion to approve the minutes of the May 27, 2014 regular meeting as presented by Ron Felger; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried.

PERSONNEL/COMMUNICATIONS

Mr. Himsel recognized the following teacher for being named NACS Teachers of the Year:Michelle Stoffel, Jodie Zimmerman, Abby Tigulis, and Melissa Rife.

Mr. Himsel recognized Ellen Brineman for being awarded the Thiele Professional Learning Stipend.

John Hilger, on behalf of the Board Members, thanked the teachers for their hard work and commitment to NACS.

A. RESIGNATIONS Matt Aleshire, Carroll Middle Custodian, resigned as of 6/6/14. Rita Augustin, Carroll Middle Instructional Assistant SE, resigned 4 hours/day as of 6/5/14. Letisha Clendenen, Carroll High Teacher, resigned as of the end of the 2013-14 school year. J'Nelle Hamilton, Carroll High Teacher, resigned as of the end of the 2013-14 school year. Move a 4 hour position at Carroll Middle School to a 4 hour position at Carroll High due to the student transitioning from middle school to high school (general fund)

G. HOMEBOUND STUDENT INSTRUCTION Requested the following: #13-18 ext., Carroll High Student, at a maximum of 20 hours/week, beginning 6/21/14-7/25/14. Teacher assignment: Melissa Robison, Kyle Sommer, Bonnie Johnson, Andy Deatrick, Carrie Wisehart. #13-20 ext., Carroll High Student, at a maximum of 10 hours/week, beginning 6/7/14-6/13/14. Teacher assignment: Marie Hanes and Laura Semba.

H. PERMISSION TO POST/HIRE Requested permission to post/hire the following:Carroll High Summer School Custodian 6 weeks, 5.5 hours/day. Guidance Counselors - 1 High School at 204 days/year and 1 Elementary School at 184 days/year beginning with the 2014-15 school year.

Rick Vorick, Hickory Center Principal, requested permission to accept a donation of scrip vouchers valued at $1,150.00 from Jump for Heart and the American Heart Association to be used for PE equipment. Pam Kaylor, Oak View Principal, requests permission to accept a donation from the Oak View PTO in the amount of $15,051.44 to be used for iPads and netbooks. Barb Ihnen, Perry Hill Principal, requested permission to accept a donation of scrip vouchers valued at $850.00 from Jump for Heart and the American Heart Association to be used for PE equipment. Bill Mallers, NACS Business Manager, requested permission to accept a donation from Ellen McBride in the amount of $1,635.00 to be used to support the Transportation Department. Board Members stated their appreciation to the Community and Students for their continued support.

BUSINESS REPORT

A. 2014-15 STUDENT FEES Recommended the enclosed 2014-15 school year student fees. Motion to approve by Kent Somers; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried.

B. CORPORATION PURCHASES Building Corporation Purchases - Series 2013 Bond Issue $37,230.00. Motion to approve by Ron Felger; seconded by Paul Sloffer. Motion carried.

Board Comments: Kent Somers was pleased that student fees were kept to minimal increases. John Hilger was pleased with graduation ceremony and that the staff did a great job.
