REGULAR MEETING


The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in regular session on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Paul Sloffer, Ron Felger and John Hilger. Also present: Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, Bill Mallers, Lisa Harris, staff, patrons and a reporter.


Motions herewith mentioned are unanimous unless otherwise stated.


President Kent Somers called the meeting to order. Motion to approve the minutes of the January 25, 2016 Board of Finance meeting and regular meeting as presented by Paul Sloffer; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried.




COMMENDATIONS


Dr. Gloria Shamanoff read the following commendations: Carroll Middle students for their success at the Indiana Regional Scholastic Art Exhibit. Maple Creek Middle students for their success at the recent ISSMA


Contest.

K. GRANT/DONATION ACCEPTANCE Barb Ihnen, Perry Hill Principal, requested permission to accept donations from the Perry Hill PTO in the amount of $1,350.00 to support the Perry Hill CLASS program and $6,000.00 to support Perry Hill's Professional Development. Motion to approve by Liz Hathaway; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried.


SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT


A. TEACHERS PERFORMANCE GRANT Recommended distribution of Teacher Performance Grant pursuant to House Enrollment Act 1003 (2016) and IC 20-43-10-3 and per discussion with the Exclusive Representative. Included with the distribution will be the $15,311.21 performance grant received June 2015.


The teacher performance grant distribution will be paid to returning staff from the 2014-15 school year that were employed December 1, 2015, that received the teacher performance based compensation for 2015-16. Motion to approve by Paul Sloffer; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried.

BUSINESS REPORT


A. NATATORIUM ROOFING PROJECT Requested permission to advertise for bids to be taken on March 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the NACS Administration Office for the Natatorium roofing project scheduled for the summer of 2016. Motion to approve by John Hilger; seconded by Liz Hathaway. Motion carried.


B. CORPORATION PURCHASES Building Corporation Purchases - $90,702.00. Motion to approve by Ron Felger; seconded by Paul Sloffer. Motion carried.


C. CORPORATION PAYMENTS Building Corporation Payments - $31,916.90. Motion to approve by Paul Sloffer; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried.


D. 2015 BUDGET REPORT Bill Mallers presented the 2015 Budget Report.


Motion to approve claims and payroll, subject to audit, by Liz Hathaway; seconded by Paul Sloffer. Motion carried.


Board Comments: Kent Somers acknowledged the NACS district for being fiscally responsible. He noted the Chicago Public School recent bond issue to cover operation costs.
