REGULAR MEETING

The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in regular session on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Paul Sloffer, Ron Felger and John Hilger. Also present: Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, Bill Mallers, Lisa Harris, staff, students, and reporters.

Motions herewith mentioned are unanimous unless otherwise stated.

President Kent Somers called the meeting to order. Motion to approve the minutes of the May 9, 2016 regular meeting as presented by John Hilger; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried.

COMMENDATIONS

Dr. Shamanoff read the following commendation: Six NACS elementary students will be attending Big M Math Camp at Ball State University in June. They are Braden Cannon, Cedar Canyon; Jacob Kieffer, Eel River; Jeevika Setzer, Hickory Center; Erick Kabot, Huntertown; Mason Richmond, Huntertown; and Andy Deng, Oak View.

Jamie Wilkins, Oak View Principal, requested permission to accept donations from the Oak View PTO in the amount of $3,000 to be used for lockers and $5,439.60 to be used for iPad minis and accessories. Motion to approve by Liz Hathaway; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

A. CORPORATION POLICY CHANGES - FIRST READING

Mr. Himsel presented the first reading of the Corporation policy Changes.

B. CORPORATION POLICY CHANGES - THIRD/FINAL READING Chris Himsel presented the third/final reading of the Corporation Policy Changes for Policy #5518, #5830, #6153, #6810, and #6820. Motion to approve by Ron Felger; seconded by Liz Hathaway. Motion carried.

C. 2016-17 STUDENT HANDBOOKS Recommended the enclosed Track and Cross Country letter winner changes for the 2016-17 Student Handbooks. Motion to approve by Paul Sloffer; seconded by Liz Hathaway. Motion carried.

BUSINESS REPORT

A. 2016 BUS PURCHASE Recommended the purchase of eight 78-passenger IC conventional buses and one 54-passenger IC conventional special education bus from Midwest Transit Equipment for $910,128.00 through the Central Indiana Education Service Center (CIESC) Cooperative Purchasing bid program. Motion to approve by John Hilger; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried.

B. CORPORATION PURCHASES

Building Corporation Purchases - $126,870.55. Motion to approve by John Hilger; seconded by Ron Felger. Questions asked and answered. Vote was four in favor with Kent Somers opposed. Motion carried.

Motion to approve claims and payroll, subject to audit, by Liz Hathaway; seconded by John Hilger. Motion carried.
