EXECUTIVE SESSION


The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in executive session on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Ron Felger, and Steve Bartkus. Also present: Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, John Miller, Jamie Wilkins, Bill Toler and John Bloom.


IC 5-14-1.5-6.1 (b) 2(D) For discussion of strategy with respect to the purchase or lease of real property.


Chris Himsel and John Miller presented updated information with respect to the purchase or lease of real property. Board members asked questions which were answered by John Bloom.


No other business was discussed.


Meeting adjourned at 6:42 p.m. with no need to reconvene after the regular board meeting.

BUS REPLACEMENT PLAN AMENDMENT HEARING

The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met for a Bus Replacement Plan Amendment Hearing on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Ron Felger and Steve Bartkus. Also present: Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, staff, patrons and reporters.

President Kent Somers called the hearing to order. Chris Himsel presented information on the Bus Replacement Plan Amendment. There were no board member comments. There were no audience comments. Kent Somers adjourned the hearing.

REGULAR MEETING

The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in regular session on Monday, May 22, 2017 immediately following the hearing in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Ron Felger and Steve Bartkus. Also present: Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, staff, patrons and reporters.

Motions herewith mentioned are unanimous unless otherwise stated.

President Kent Somers called the meeting to order. Motion to approve the minutes of the May 8, 2017 executive session and regular meeting and the May 15, 2017 public work session as presented by Liz Hathaway; seconded by Steve Bartkus. Motion carried.

President Kent Somers reiterated the board member vacancy and asked if the board members had any comments. Kent, Ron and Liz all offered comments. Motion to appoint Kristi Schlatter to serve the remainder of John Hilger's board term by Liz Hathaway; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion approved. The board members then welcomed Kristi to the NACS School Board of Trustees.

A. RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE 2017 BUS REPLACEMENT PLAN

Recommended the enclosed resolution to amend the 2017 bus replacement plan to increase the number of buses purchased from ten to eleven. Motion to approve by Ron Felger; seconded by Steve Bartkus. Motion carried.

Board Comments: Steve Bartkus offered condolences to the Hoot family for their recent loss. Kent Somers concurred with Mr. Bartkus' statement.

Superintendent's Comments: Dr. Himsel commented that he attended the recent senior awards ceremony and the NACS community has much to be proud of in terms of the accomplishments of the Carroll High School 2017 senior class.
