EXECUTIVE SESSION


The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in executive session on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Ron Felger and Steve Bartkus. Also present: Kristi Schlatter, Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff and Bill Mallers.

Chris Himsel presented updated information with respect to the purchase or lease of real property.


No other business was discussed.

REGULAR MEETING


The Northwest Allen County Board of School Trustees met in regular session on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 7:03 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room. Members present: Kent Somers, Liz Hathaway, Ron Felger and Steve Bartkus. Also present: Kristi Schlatter, Chris Himsel, Gloria Shamanoff, Lisa Harris, staff, patrons and reporters.


Motions herewith mentioned are unanimous unless otherwise stated.


President Kent Somers called the meeting to order. Motion to approve the minutes of the May 22, 2017 executive session, bus replacement hearing and regular meeting as presented by Liz Hathaway; seconded by Ron Felger. Vote was 4 in favor and 0 opposed. Kristi Schlatter did not vote. Motion carried.


Mr. Somers asked Lisa Harris, Notary Public, to administer the Oath of Office. Mrs. Harris led Kristi Schlatter in reciting her Oath of Office.

L. GRANT/DONATION ACCEPTANCE Adela Dickey, Technology Director, requested permission to accept the Digital Learning Grant from the Indiana Department of Education's Office of eLearning in the amount of $75,000.00 to be used to support the 1:1 program. Kim Lochmueller, Cedar Canyon Principal, requested permission to accept a donation of physical education equipment valued at $1,050.00 from the American Heart Association Hoops for Heart. Kim Lochmueller, Cedar Canyon Principal, requested permission to accept a donation in the amount of $16,697.89 from the Cedar Canyon PTO to be used for whiteboards in preparation for 1:1 computers. Brandon Bitting, Carroll High Principal, requested permission to accept a donation from Allen County Farm Bureau in the amount of $1,500.00 to be used for the FFA program. Brandon Bitting, Carroll High Principal, requested permission to accept a donation from Scholarship America in the amount of $1,000.00 to be used for professional development. BUSINESS REPORT


A. 2017-18 STUDENT FEES Recommended the enclosed 2017-18 school year student fees. Motion to approve by Liz Hathaway; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried.

B. CORPORATION PURCHASES


Digital Learning Grant - $25,000.00; Capital Projects Fund - $106,378.10; Building Corporation Purchases - $46,816.11. Motion to approve by Steve Bartkus; seconded by Liz Hathaway. Motion carried.



Motion to approve claims and payroll, subject to audit, by Liz Hathaway; seconded by Ron Felger. Motion carried.


Board Comments: Kent Somers welcomed Kristi Schlatter to the school board. Mr. Somers congratulated Amy Moser, Perry Hill Teacher, for her retirement and thanked her for her years of service to NACS students and families.


Superintendent's Comments: Dr. Himsel introduced the NACS Teachers of the Year: Mike Barnes, Brett Lanning, Kristi Miller and Steve Pearson. Mr. Pearson was not in attendance. In addition, Dr. Himsel recognized the CHS Track teams for their accomplishments this season. Dr. Himsel congratulated Barb Ihnen, Perry Hill Principal, and Dave Shown, Carroll High Custodian, for their retirements and thanked them for their service.
