Teacher Tuesday with Sherry Shoda

Sherry Shoda has been teaching for more than 20 years and she definitely has a heart for special education. Currently at Aspen Meadow, Sherry believes in what she does, that children in her program may learn differently and sometimes it may be harder to have a break-through with them. That does not seem to bother her though, it just makes her student’s progress sweeter when it happens.

She credits the parents for being engaged; she feels the parent support because they help and understand the challenges.

“We have to teach the younger kids how to learn, just learning how to learn. I taught nine students how to learn—basics like how to cut. I have to choose my battles,” said Shoda. The ones with socialization and academic hurdles are battles she chooses to fight. “They need to become more interactive,” she added.

Sherry and all our staff deeply respect our instructional assistants and the role they play with maintaining the classroom. If you or someone you know has ever considered helping children, we need your kind heart. Please visit our website at www.nacs.k12.in.us under the employment tab for all openings.
